Previous Daily Devotional About pushing God… Mark 3:33 "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked. 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother." (NIV) We all want our way. We all want what we want the way we want it. To get what we want, we sometimes think we can get God to give us what we want. We often wrap what we want up in the cover of a prayer and we inwardly hope that by wrapping what we want up in the cover of a prayer, God will deliver. What we sometimes do, instead of living under God's grace in humility, is try to push God to do what we want when we want it. However, God cannot be pushed. God cannot be fooled. God cannot be convinced do give us what we want when God does not share our want for our life. Ten thousand people can stand in agreement that what we want is God's will. However, no matter how many people who agree with us that what we want and need from God is godly or within God's will, God cannot be pushed to do what we want done. What we must all realize is that God can be called upon to answer our prayers, pleas, and petitions. However, just because we ask does not mean God will deliver or answer like we want. When we want to push God to get what we want, we must remember we are the ones who should be willing to be pushed. Instead of trying to push God's will in our direction, we should be humble enough to be pushed by God's will in His direction. We must be open to letting God lead us instead of our trying to lead God. One of the greatest challenges of our life is to put aside our selfishness and be selfless with God. When we want something from God, we must pause just a minute and consider not what we want, but what He wants. Then we must be willing to surrender what we want and actually do only what He wants. |
