About pushing ourselves…

Psalm 62:1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him (NIV)

Have you ever pushed yourself? Have you ever pushed yourself to the brink of exhaustion or collapse? Millions of people push themselves to the brink of collapse or beyond. Many people push themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally in unhealthy ways. A healthy way to push oneself is to push against sin and push against the darkness that comes into our lives. We do not think of addressing the darkness and temptations of our life as pushing against these influences because so often these influences push against us. Too often, we conceive of our abilities to deal with darkness, sin, and adversity as if our abilities are weak or even non-existent. However, we achieve the pinnacle of spirituality when we exert and even exhaust ourselves by pushing against the darkness and letting the light of God glow within us as our resource. The lesson is clear. When the darkness pushes against us, we are to push back with prayer, with love, with humor, and with the light of God in service to others.
