Previous Daily Devotional About receiving help Matthew 21:22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (NIV) Believing and receiving are tied together because to believe means we have opened the door of our heart to God. When we open the door of our heart to God, we will hear Him speak because we have opened our mind and heart enough to hear His words spoken to us. When we need help, when we truly need help in a way that we cannot express to anyone but God, He does help us. God does not give us anything we ask for but He does give us whatever we need to be His humble child. However, the act of asking alone is not enough. We must ask in prayer. When we ask in prayer, we must have a heart for asking and a heart for receiving. To ask in prayer means we must have a heart that truly prays in the most godly, devout, and unselfish ways. These are the unspoken supernatural realities of this verse that our heart, mind, and soul must unselfishly pray not for ourselves, but for others. To receive we must give. To give to God on behalf of others means that God will act upon the prayerful gift we give to others. The help we so desperately need in desperate times comes to us when we suddenly realize we are not helpless to give. Our help comes from God as we are willing to help others by praying for them, speaking with them, or reaching out to them. For when we truly believe in God, we are not just passively waiting for help to be poured out for us. When we truly believe in God, when we truly, truly, truly believe we are activated to work and serve others. At the times in our lives when we are able to take care of ourselves, God does not take care of us because His help is not needed. However, these are the very times when we must be His servants and help others. For when we help others when we are stronger, they and God will help us when we are weaker. |
