More about receiving the truth
Luke 8:13 Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word
with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the
time of testing they fall away. (NIV)
Receiving truth, wisdom, and love is not enough. Even as difficult as receiving truth,
wisdom, and love can be, the test of our spirit or soul is to put down roots deep enough
so when the time of trials comes we will not be torn away or torn apart. The wind of
darkness and adversity cannot just come in and tear us apart if we have received the truth
and become deeply rooted into the ground at the foot of the Cross. In the Christian faith,
we are called upon to do more than just listen and get happy with what we hear. We are
called to be responsible and dig down deep and apply the Lord's truth within our lives. We
are called upon to do work
often very hard work, to secure ourselves in God's wisdom.
Receiving truth, wisdom, and love requires we do more than just grab a handful of truth,
wisdom, and love and throw them around like a toy rubber ball. Receiving truth, wisdom,
and love means we work hard in the Lord's garden of our soul and plant the seeds of faith,
then water them, nurture them, and be vigilant to remove the weeds that choke out our
faith.
