Previous Daily Devotional About remembering Christ needs you to be righteous and holy Matthew 24:12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (NIV) There are a million dark messages sent every day by our culture and the media that represents our culture. These messages try to communicate to you how you and others live is of no consequence to God because God is a myth. Unbelievers receive these dark messages and believe them. Some believers are easily influenced by these dark messages. Devout believers, who at one time might have been appalled by blatant ungodliness in the media and in the world, have begun to adjust and are no longer shocked, outraged, or appalled. What you must remember as you live in the middle of this overt attack by the darkness, is that living a holy and righteous life for God does matter. If you look at the big pulleys and gears in a large piece of machinery the pulleys and gears attach to a small shaft. What keeps the pulleys and gears attached to the shaft and what keeps the shaft and pulley turning is a little pin. Most people would overlook the pin or cotter key because of its small size. Without the pin the pulley and shaft would not connect and the machine would not operate. In the same way, you are a pin for Christ in the world. Admittedly, it hardly looks like you make a dent in all the sin and corruption that is going on in the world. However, you keep Christ alive in the world. You keep Christ alive within His church. You keep the church alive for Christ. If it were not for you, the world and our civilization would soon come unraveled. You are the small line of mortar between the big stones, the very mortar that keeps the big stones in the structure of our world from toppling over. You are the unseen secret ingredient that keeps your friends, family, co-workers, fellow Christians, the people on your prayer list, and unseen thousands more from disintegrating. Although the last statement sounds farfetched, think about why Christ died for you and why He wants you to persevere and stand firm against the darkness of the world. Christ died so you could be saved while you are alive so you could be a power and influence in your world. You must remember to be righteous and holy to show others you are for real as one of Christ's followers. Then, through you, you can show others Christ is also for real. Without you, most of the unbelievers in the world could go on unbelieving and never have to come face to face with a real Christ living in a real person like you. Anyone can go through the motions. Only a few people like you are called by Christ to show the truth. |
