Previous Daily Devotional About sacrifice leading to holiness… John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' (NIV) A key ingredient of a holy life is sacrifice. To sacrifice means to offer something in homage or respect. To sacrifice means to give up something you highly value. In the presence of God, sacrifice for Him and His work must be done for totally unselfish reasons. To sacrifice in totally unselfish ways you must be fully in charge of yourself. If you are not fully in charge of yourself you will be selfish. Our natural instincts, our sinful human nature, and our human need to survive tell us to take care of ourselves first. However, our progress as a Christian faith has been built on sacrifice. In baseball, a sacrifice hit is made when you give up any chance of scoring yourself so someone else can advance or score. To live a holy life, we must be willing to give up what we want so the cause of Christ will advance.
