About seeing evil Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. (NIV) We must not be blind. We must be sighted and honest. We must not lie to ourselves. We must be honest and see evil for what evil is. For when we are honest and we see evil for what evil is, we then have an opportunity to combat evil with love and with the light of Christ. We must be honest and see evil for evil wants to live in the dark shadows, to tempt us, and to attack us from our blind side. We must see evil for we can win out against evil and we can destroy evil before evil brings us down if we see evil first. In our tradition of turning the other cheek, we must see what is about to strike us, for to be smitten without knowing what it is that strikes us, is to live in ignorance. When we live in ignorance we cannot forgive because we have no basis upon which to forgive. We must be honest about evil, for evil is the great adversary that seeks our destruction. When we see evil, we can then turn to God and reach out to God. We must reach out to God for it is He who will give us the power to overcome the evil we see. |
