About sowing and reaping…

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (NIV)

We are all in the planting business. We are all farmers. What we plant and how we plant determines the crop we harvest or reap. In planting or sowing our seeds, we cannot make fun of God. We cannot fool God. We cannot lie to God. We cannot deceive God. God knows more about us than we ever know about ourselves. God knows whether you are planting good seeds by living right or not. He knows whether you are planting bad seeds and whether you still have the chains of sin holding you in slavery or not. God knows about the kinds of seeds you plant. Dealing with sin is not just a matter of changing your behavior, because dealing with sin is not just a matter of what you do. Dealing with sin is a matter of changing what is in your heart. If you plant corn but intend to plant soy beans, God knows what you plant and God knows your intentions. No matter how good your intentions might be, the seed you put in the ground will produce a plant just like the seed planted. We can pretend to be righteous. We can intend to be righteous. But if we do not throw off the chains of our sin, the seeds of our sin will produce more sin. We cannot break the chains of sin’s slavery by pretending. We can only break the chains of sin by turning away from the sin and turning to Christ. Christ will give us freedom. Christ will turn us into totally new persons. Christ will give us a new life. He will give us a new heart. He will give us new hope for the future.
