Previous Daily Devotional About spiritual hunger… Luke 22:19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, " This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." (NIV) Every
person on earth, including you, is filled with spiritual hunger. Of course, it
is hard to tell some people have spiritual hunger. Some people lead lives of
such darkness no one would even remotely guess they have any kind of spiritual
hunger. However, it is because of spiritual hunger people do lead lives of
darkness. Spiritual hunger fed with darkness leads to a life of darkness.
Spiritual hunger fed with the light and love of God leads to a life full of
God's light and love. First, we must recognize we have the hunger. Then, if we
are in the darkness, we must come out of the darkness long enough to look at
ourselves in the mirror and understand we are starving for the light and love of
God. Eventually, if we mature and we feed our spiritual hunger properly, our
hunger becomes a yearning to express love and compassion rather than just
wanting to receive love and compassion. All the threads of your existence and
all the pieces of your being are influenced by how you fill your hunger. Our
ultimate spiritual food, symbolized in Holy Communion, is Christ and His love.
