About spiritual poverty as a blessing…

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (NIV)

What irony Jesus presents! How can someone devastated in spirit and impoverished in soul possess the kingdom of heaven? When your spirit is down you are blessed in an ironic way because when you are down you are able to look up to see Christ standing in His kingdom of heaven within you. When you can only look up, when all earthly and human props have been taken out from under you, then in humble weakness you can whisper "Jesus, Precious Lord, I need you" and really mean it. For the rich in spirit so often get caught up in their own life. The rich in spirit forget where He is and forget to humble themselves with a thankful heart.
