About standing on your feet…
Acts 26:13 About noon, O king, as I was on the road, I saw a light from
heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all
fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, `Saul, Saul,
why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.' 15
"Then I asked, `Who are you, Lord?' " `I am Jesus, whom you are
persecuting,' the Lord replied. 16 `Now get up and stand on your feet. (NIV)
God did not create us to slither on the ground. He did not create us to walk
on all four limbs like many animals. God did not create us to be aquatic beings
like fish who live only in water. God created us to stand up on our feet and
walk upright. We are not only to stand upright on our feet physically, we are to
stand upright on our feet spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. We are called
to stand upright on our feet, because as God's servants, we are better servants
when we are strong than when we are weak. Although we are called to be God's
servants, we are best able to serve God when we walk upright and not stoop over
in defeat and failure. When we are God's servants, we are not to be defeated and
knocked down in our life. However, if we are defeated and knocked down in our
life, we are to stand up and come back against the opponent. As God's servants,
we are not to carry a self-image of defeat or failure. As His servants, we are
to stand upright because we are winners in Christ. Although our outward life may
appear to be a failure to the world, our inner life is to be lived as the
victors and winners we are in Christ Jesus. There will come a point in our
existence when we stand before God. We will, at that moment, stand up on our
feet. When we see Him in Heaven, from our standing position we will worship Him
and we will bow down to Him because our love for Him is not expressed in any
other way. When we see Him in Heaven, we will experience His full power of love
and grace as we stand before Him. As much as we love God, as often as we are on
our knees in humble submission before Him, His work and His will for us is to
stand upright and walk to His fields so ripe for the harvest. We cannot truly
get to His fields crawling on our bellies like a snake. We cannot do His work in
the fields if we are in defeat or failure. To give God all the glory He is due,
to give God our love and devotion, we must never be caught up in the utter
defeat that comes when we are selfish and only trying to take care of number
one.
