Previous Daily Devotional About stopping hatred… Matthew 5:43 "You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. (NIV) Stopping hatred in the world starts with one person at a time. Stopping hatred starts with you. So vast is humanity it would seem stopping hatred is the work of only the great nations or only the great rulers upon the earth. Jesus was not a great ruler as we think of great rulers. Jesus only ministered unto the masses for three years. He was tortured and crucified. He had no earthly wealth and He had no earthly army. However, He left with us the hope of eternal life. He left with us a reason and a power to stop hatred where we are. We can stop hatred where we are by loving each other. We can stop hatred where we are by loving those no one else loves. We can stop hatred by expressing to others how important they are. For when people do not think they are very important, when people think no one can see them or appreciate them, they usually hate. We stop hatred by loving others in ways that help them affirm their importance and affirm their own ability to love. When we ignore people, even in our daily encounters that seem to mean nothing, we fuel the fire that brings hatred. When we turn our back on those who have great needs, the evil darkness that lurks about trying to devour the soul finds a willing accomplice in the person so ignored. Stopping hatred is everyone's job. For when we do not stop hatred within our own life, and we do not spread the love of God to everyone we know, then everyone we know will forget to pass on what we have ignored to give. Then little by little, personal hatred builds and when personal hatred in one person is passed on and received by others, then whole families, whole groups, and whole nations can express their hatred in violence. |
