Previous Daily Devotional This Devotional Is Part Of A Special Continuing Series Related To Dependency And Co-dependency Issues. Rules Of Godly Common Sense Apply. About telling yourself lies... 1 John 4:6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. (NIV) Telling ourselves a lie is very common. When the lie we tell ourselves is rational, then we can say we have told a "rational lie"…also called "rationalizing". Telling ourselves a rational or irrational lie is a sin. Telling ourselves lies will eventually hurt us and others. We cannot fully be who Christ wants us to be if we tell lies to God, to ourselves, or to others. Even if the truth hurts, we must live in and tell ourselves the truth. If the truth hurts when we tell ourselves the truth, we must run to Christ in prayer for He will comfort us. It is better to tell ourselves a painful truth than to have the hurt of a lie destroy us and/or others.
