About the real heroes…

John 18: 4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" 5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (NIV)

In His darkest hour of earthly life, Jesus went forward with courage. In the hours just before His torture and death, He was afraid. He was terrified. He sweat blood. Jesus was not the fearless type of hero with false courage we see in the movies from Hollywood. Instead, Jesus heroically faced down His fear and He courageously did what God wanted Him to do. We must remember, the real heroes of life are not sports figures or movie stars. The real heroes of faith are the people who plod along and seemingly barely make it from one day to the next. The real heroes of faith are the mom's and dad's of troubled youngsters who don't give up on loving their child. The real heroes of faith are the sick and lame who remain cheerful. The real heroes of faith are the crippled athletes or crippled persons who contribute to the world while sitting in a wheelchair for life. The real heroes of faith are victims of robberies shot during the robberies yet still cheer others on to a better life. The real heroes of faith are the women who are rape victims but who go on to raise a loving Christian family. The real heroes of faith are the people who put their personal pain aside each day to care for and care about someone else. You can be a real hero of faith. You can be a real hero of faith by keeping your faith and forging ahead each day. The Lord treasures faithfulness in spite of all odds. Christ calls us - in many ways and at many times, to be a real hero of faith. He made the ultimate sacrifice for us. He is calling you today. Do you hear Him? Will you answer?
