About a time of giving…

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

In most of the world where Christmas is celebrated by Christians, Christmas is a time of giving. Christmas is a time of giving because God first gave His Son to us. What we sometimes overlook is the reason God sent Jesus into the world. God sent Jesus into the world not only to start a celebration of His birth, but to also bring to each of us an opportunity to be saved from our sins and an opportunity to find eternal life in Heaven. Salvation from our sinful souls and sinful way of life was God's objective in sending Christ to earth. The conception, birth, life, crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Christ were the methods God chose to bring us an opportunity to find eternal life. We are all God's people. None of us is outside of His love, His compassion, His forgiveness, or His mercy. We might run away and hide from Him. We might go through the motions of being a Christian when we are really not. We might celebrate Christmas as if we know what Christmas is all about when we do not really know. However, we are all God's children and He loves us in spite of our faults, our mistakes, and our many sins. Christmas is more than our giving and receiving gifts. Christmas is about God giving us His precious Son and about our receiving Him as our Savior and Lord within our heart and life.
