standing in the shadow of the cross during tragedy, disasters, and chaos... 1 John 3:16 This is how we know what
love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our
lives for our brothers. (NIV) 1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love
of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives
for the brethren. (KJV) In catastrophes and disasters, all of us have a mission to accomplish for God. The murderers, the looters, the whores, the drug dealers and pushers, the pimps, the gang members and gang leaders, the mob bosses, all these people have a mission in their life put upon them by God. Obviously, these sinful people tragically miss the mark. However, when we put ourselves above the sinful, we also miss God’s mark because we are all sinners and we have all missed the mark of doing God’s mission and accomplishing His goals. In catastrophes and disasters, our mission for God must not be clouded over or forgotten. If we have Christ alive in our heart, He must remain alive in our heart even in times of disaster. The shadow of Christ's cross hangs over us at all times, even when our world has come apart because of tragedy, disasters, and chaos. In our need for personal survival in times of catastrophe and disaster, in the shadow of His cross, we must be driven to personally survive for one and only one reason. The reason we must survive is so we can serve our God for one more minute, one more hour, one more day, one more week, and one more year, year after year. We can see both the best and the worst side of human beings come out in catastrophes and disasters. Because we live and work in the shadow of His cross, we must do everything possible to offset the consequences of tragedies, disasters, and chaos by being godly and humane in Christ’s name.
