About a treasure of the past . Job 29:2 "How I long for the months gone by, for the days when God watched over me, 3 when his lamp shone upon my head and by his light I walked through darkness! 4 Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship blessed my house, 5 when the Almighty was still with me and my children were around me, 6 when my path was drenched with cream and the rock poured out for me streams of olive oil. (NIV) Some persons have a past they desperately want to forget. In the past of some person's lives there is trauma, tragedy, pain, and suffering that is so profound that every waking moment is spent running away. However, even when your past is not very good, the ashes of the past can be used to make the building blocks of your present and future. Our God is a mighty and awesome God. Our memories of a past that hurts us can be used to glorify God. How we turn the bitterness and ashes of the past into a work and labor of love for God is a process we cannot always understand. However, we must remember that God is with us and His healing love overflows in our heart at all times. It is because His healing love fills our present, that we can build upon our past. With Christ walking beside us, we can walk back into our past and find healing that leads to service for Him today. What seems an impossibility with us, is no problem at all for God. A past littered with mistakes, pain, and suffering can be turned into a treasure of wisdom, compassion, and understanding in our desire to be a true child of God. Because God loves us so much, we can turn poverty-stricken yesterdays into an incredibly rich today and an even richer tomorrow. |
