Previous Daily Devotional James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (NIV) About turning suffering into a character builder I would like to speak about my life for just this time. I do not like to speak of myself but perhaps my approach can help you in some way. As I write these words, I am under physical attack by physical pain and a neurological difficulty. The experience is awful. But there is the above verse we just read about trials, joy, perseverance, and maturity. A part of me wants to think "what a pile of garbage," but the soul side of me says that my life can be continually molded and shaped by God as a result of this suffering. The sufferings and trials of our lives can be used by God and us to mold and shape us to Gods will. God wants us to be at a certain spiritual place in life. It is not Gods will that any of us are to suffer, but since suffering is a part of life, He expects us to bear with it and let it shape us to His wonderful dimensions. It is because of that objective, the objective to let suffering mold us and shape us to His will, that we can all consider the suffering a benefit and consider it pure joy to endure trials, sufferings, and a testing of our faith. |
