Previous Daily Devotional About understanding the universe Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. (NIV) We have come to know the intricacies of life in plants and animals. We have peered into the deep reaches of the known universe and have photographed the deepest part of the ocean. As we have done all these things, we find our questions multiply faster than our answers accumulate. As we try to understand the universe, we come to realize the immense complexity of the universe is greater than we can imagine. What we thought of as infinity takes on new meaning. Even the most skeptic of scientists, must come to the conclusion that a guiding, creative, and intelligent hand not only assembled all we call reality, but this hand also continually supports what we call reality. This Hand, this guiding and supporting Hand, is the hand of God. The intricacies of a blade of grass take several lifetimes to understand yet God created a blade of grass to multiply itself with His support and guidance. When we study the universe or any part thereof, we, as do many scientists, stand in awe and wonder at how He created the universe and how He keeps the universe going. Not only are we reduced to awe and wonder about how things are, we come to understand how little we know and how much we have to learn. As we study and marvel at His creation, we must also come to study and marvel at His sacrifice for us. He sacrificed for us a lost band of sometimes incredibly ignorant beings who too often turn away from His guiding hand of love. |
