Previous Daily Devotional About upward eyes Psalms 33:13 From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. (NIV) Some of us cannot help but see the tragic sin and darkness of the world around us. We often look at the lives of those around us and see their spiritual hunger. We often look at the direction of the nations and the people of the world and see the downward spiral. It seems the world has gone so far astray there is no hope. Yet we must not be led astray ourselves when we see the sin, suffering, and darkness around us. We must make every effort, both in prayer and out of prayer, to turn our eyes upward toward God. We must make every effort to see above the present circumstances and look upward to where our Lord lives in heaven above. When it seems hope is no more, we must turn our eyes upward and try to count the countless stars in the sky. When it seems hope is gone, we must remember the Lord's love is as infinite as the stars in the heavens. When things look bleak, we must make every effort to cast our eyes upward into the azure blue sky of summer and reach up to grasp the billowy clouds that float their way across the Lord's landscape. When our needs go unfilled, we must cast our eyes upward into the Lord's great mountains and absorb the beauty of His snow-capped peaks. When things seem to look their darkest, we must turn our eyes upon Christ hanging upon the Cross for us. For it is in that dark scene of the Cross, the darkest scene of all human history, that we find such hope, such love, and such promise. From the Cross, we see Christ's broken heart pouring His love upon the world. From the Cross, we hear Christ's loving voice calling His little ones to be near Him in the darkest hour. From the Cross, we find strength to battle all manner of diseases and maladies. From the Cross, we see His nail-pierced hands reaching out to our hearts as a shepherd reaches out to his flock to gather them in. |
