Previous Daily Devotional About victory over evil 1 Chronicles 18:5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them. 6He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went. (NIV) War rages in many parts of the world. The greatest war, even when not waged with guns and bullets, is the war between good and evil, fought in the backyard of your soul. In this war, Christ makes our weapons available to us. In Christ and through Him, we have command and control over the great forces of goodness, love, mercy, and compassion. It is our command and control of the great forces of goodness, love, mercy, and compassion that will always bring us certain victory. In this spiritual war, we can command the forces of God to come to our aid as we forgive and exhibit His love. We wage this spiritual war because we can be assured that evil will be destroyed as we love others as ourselves. We can call upon God to bring His mighty angels to work on our behalf if we adopt the attitude and adopt the presence of peace the angels bring. To have His mighty army of angels waging war with us depends not so much upon what God wants to give us as it does upon what we want to give God. For just as surely as Jesus calmed the winds and the waves, God will calm the winds and waves of evil if we are willing to take command and control over our lives and over the power of temptation. When the darkness of evil comes against us, we are capable of dispelling the darkness with the divine touch of Christ's love. For in Christ, in His truth, and in His mercy we find His power that overcomes every darkness. The scars upon Christ's hands melt away all power of evil and erase the influence of evil in our lives. The same hand of Christ that was nailed to the Cross rests upon you in your darkest hour. In Christ, you can call down the fire of heaven to burn away the evil that seeks to destroy you. In doing this battle, we must always remember that God considers us precious. God's will is that none of us should suffer. We must also remember that when the darkness comes against us, our moments of intense communion with Christ may be gone for a while. However, we must have faith, for our faith brings back the moments of communion, even when the moments are only a fragment of what we might want or expect. Most important of all, as we are willing to be humble, Christ brings us certain victory. |
