Previous Daily Devotional About vision in poverty Revelation 2:8 These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. 9 I know your afflictions and your poverty--yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. (NIV) Monetary poverty kills vision and brings blindness to the spirit without Christ. When hope is gone because of poverty's onset, and with the fear and trepidation poverty brings, the ability to see past the present is like being blind to the future. We must realize the things of this earth, including the money so needed to survive, are not needed as much as we think. For if we let our material poverty kill our ability to see into our future with hope, poverty will have surely killed us in spirit and perhaps lead to our death in the physical. With Christ alive within you, there is a vision within you. The true and glorious vision within you that motivates you and propels you onward is that of seeing Christ waiting for you at the gates of Heaven. That vision of Christ at the gates of Heaven does not bring us an answer to poverty of the pocketbook, but that vision is absolutely necessary for us to see over the pain and obstacles that poverty brings in this life. Without Christ, there is no vision of a better tomorrow. Without Christ, there is only an unending bitterness in every thought of the future. |
