About
being strong…
Sing
to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down
to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them. † O
Lord, the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories
you give! You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the
request of his lips. † He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our
God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. † Have I not
commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be
discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." †
Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to
those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength." † The brothers there had heard
that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the
Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these men Paul thanked God and was
encouraged. † And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come
for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than
when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.
So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us
behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual
immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe
yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the
desires of the sinful nature. †
