Previous Daily Devotional About what lasts forever… Psalm 119:151 Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. 152 Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever. (NIV) We live in God's world. Tumultuous as the world becomes, with all the wars, diseases, disasters, crime, and darkness, the world was created with given laws of God in place. God created the laws of physics and science in our reality. God created the laws of moral conduct and the consequences of immorality in human life. What we do not often appreciate is how vast the laws of God really are. When we look inside a molecule and see the atoms and their subatomic particles, we only look at substance and energy. When we try to ascertain the laws that cause the atoms and molecules to do what they do, we are trying to ascertain the laws set in place by God. Using our knowledge about the laws of physics, we know what will happen to us if we jump off a building four hundred feet high. Using our knowledge about the moral laws of God, we should also know what happens to us if we treat other people with disgust and disdain. We should also know what happens to us if we treat other people with love, kindness, and compassion. As certain as the laws of physics are, we have no doubts about physical cause and effect. As certain as the laws of morality and conduct are, we should have no doubts about how we are to live our lives. Each of us must shoulder the responsibility for being the kind of person God wants all of us to be. As we journey through our life, may each of us follow Christ's unchanging and immutable laws, and may we each be graced by His words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." |
