Previous Daily Devotional About when the truth is unbearable… Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) (NIV) There are times when we think we cannot bear to see, hear, or know the truth. We can perceive the truth as unbearable because of what the truth may hold. On the surface, the truth about some things can appear to crush us. Without any personal power except our own, without any faith in God, without Jesus as a friend and companion, and without a true personal friend of any kind, the truth can crush us. However, we need not be without God, without Jesus, and without the Holy Spirit in our life. There are times when we do not want to know or hear the truth. There are times when the truth can be so horrible and so painful our soul is crushed. However, when the truth is unbearable, we can bear up. When the truth is crushing us under the weight of its terrible burden, we can be lifted up. When the truth is crushing us under an unbearable weight, we have help, and power, and love, and beauty to overpower and overshadow the unbearable truth. When we must face the truth about a loss of someone and the weight is unbearable, there is within us this very instant a power flowing down into our heart. The power flowing down into out heart life not only pushes back against the weight but also eliminates the burden. It is God's power of Light, love, and compassion that makes even the worst truth bearable. The power of God's presence in our darkest hour is a time when we can find strength to face what we think we cannot face…even when we face an unbearable truth. |
