Previous Daily Devotional About when we sin… John 15:2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (NIV) Every person who ever lived, except Christ, will die a sinner. Anything you do that does not glorify God is a sin. Anything you do that pleases yourself and that does not glorify God is a sin. Every thought, every word, every action that does not glorify God is a sin. Even when you are sure your thoughts, words, and actions are godly, you can still be committing a sin. Our worldly reality is such that we are all hopelessly lost, no matter what we do, say, or think. Our problem in life is not whether an action or inaction is a sin. Our problem in life must be whether our heart bleeds and our heart breaks when we sin. Out of this utterly hopeless and helpless circumstance of our sin and our godly sorrow comes Christ who understands everything about us and about our life. Christ died to set us free from our sins, our addictions, our evil thoughts, and our behaviors that do not glorify God. Our objective every second of our life must always be to remain in Christ. In Christ, we do not have a license to sin, but in Christ we have someone who will help us, redeem us, and restore us. If we do something that does not glorify God, no matter how important or unimportant, we must go to Christ hanging on the cross and apologize. We must go to Christ hanging on the cross and in our sorrow, in our contrition, and in our humility, kneel down and tell Him we are sorry. When we tell Christ we are sorry, He forgives us and we have an opportunity to do better, to try harder, to be more of the kind of person He wants us to be. |
