About when you can't go back to yesterday Exodus 16:2 In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the Lord's hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death." (NIV) Some of our yesterday's were much better than our today's. When difficult times come into our life, we naturally look back at what we had before and long for the times when things were easier. What we must remember in our present moment is there is a Promised Land just ahead of us. Although we might want to turn around and go back to yesterday, all the best that could ever be waits for us just around the bend in the road ahead. When you want to go back, count your blessings today. Do not let yourself be caught up in self-pity over present circumstances, for self-pity puts us into the pits of despair. Remember to look ahead, and in the here and now start to build for what lies ahead. Dare to dream, for in Christ, all dreams come true in the end. Dare to believe, for in Christ, believing gives the spiritual nature of our life a winning dominance over the physical. With God, all things are possible, and in every circumstance, we can find others who need Christ's love and touch. Difficult as it is, when we want to turn around and go back to what we had before, we must forget about the material world and live in the spiritual first. When we want to go back to better times, we must help others find God. For when we help others find God's blessings in the here and now, His blessings overflow to us as well. Help others by helping them affirm their life, affirm their experiences, and then God will in turn affirm your life. Help others see life is to be treasured no matter whether we are in tough times or not. Yesterday looks better than today because we have lost the rough edges of yesterday's experiences. When we commit our life to doing God's will, today is the most important day of our life. When you commit your life to doing God's will, today is the first day of your life as you move forward to do His work. In the glory of doing God's will, you will look forward rather than look backward in needless nostalgia. |
