Previous Daily Devotional About when you think you cannot go on… John 12:15 "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt." (NIV) As Jesus rode into Jerusalem in apparent triumph, Jesus knew the cross was just ahead. He had known since the beginning of time what would happen. Just as we often know what will happen, so did He. Jesus didn't want to go to the cross. But there was no way the cross could be avoided. The cross could not be avoided because there was too much evil and too much contempt for God in the world. The cross could not be avoided because the on-going war between Satan and God was set to spill innocent blood. His blood! The blood of the Lamb, the most innocent of innocents, the purest of the pure, was going to have to pay the highest price the world has ever known. In a world of only happy endings and eternal smiles, pain does not exist and death never happens. However, we do not live in a world of only happy endings and eternal smiles. The deadly war that took Christ to the cross is being waged within you every minute. When you think you cannot go on and do the Lord's will, remember what Christ did for you. When you think you cannot go on because there is no hope, remember the tomb was empty and His ultimate victory is within your grasp. |
