Previous Daily Devotional About wisdom and age Romans 4:18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. (NIV) Some people grow old and wise. Some people just grow old. Some people grow old and lose their faith because they do not see how God has worked in their life. People who do not give God credit or glory become bitter, hostile, lonely, and make themselves and others miserable. Some people grow old and gain more faith the older they get because as they age they see more clearly what God has done in their life. Abraham was a man of faith. Even at a hundred years old, Abraham was giving glory to God. When we grow older and do not count the blessings of our past, i.e. give God glory, we begin to sink into depression and darkness. When we do not give God glory or credit for the great things He has done in our life we leave Him out of our heart. When we give glory to God by surveying the great things God has done in our life, God's power bubbles up from within us. When we give glory or credit to God, all things are not only possible with God, some things become probable when it is God's will. At any age, faith comes alive when you give God glory. At any age, when you see the great things God is doing, has done, and can do, you unleash the power of faith. When you do not give God glory or credit, you end up with little faith and then you sit in darkness waiting for the darkness to overtake you. Christ came to earth to give us eternal life. To inherit eternal life requires that in faith, you accept that Christ died for you. We are able to believe that Christ is Savior because we give God credit or glory for sending Him to us as a personal savior. Giving God credit or glory opens a spring of God's living water within us. When His spring starts flowing, more of His blessings follow. |
