Previous Daily Devotional About words from the heart James 3:7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. (NIV) How many people would love to take back their words after their words have left their mouths? Profanity today is everywhere and accepted just about everywhere. We are bombarded by it in the media, at work, at school, on the playground, and elsewhere. The mouth today is full of poison. Out of the mouth comes the poison of hate, spite, revenge, anger, frustration, vulgarity, and other kinds of darkness. The poison that comes out of our mouths emanates from our heart. When we commit our every moment to Christ, and we commit our life to being and doing everything for Him, we must open our heart to His love. In the chaos of your heart, His love brings order. When you feel weak and faint-hearted in the battle, His love and grace in your heart strengthen you. When you open your heart, then the freedom to speak is used to glorify God rather than curse Him. When your heart is turned towards God, your heart sings His praises. When you speak with your mouth, God's love gives you pause to reflect. God's love in your heart keeps you silent before accusers and His love produces in your mind a wisdom that reflects your humility and contrition. When God is living in your heart then you wish to speak of others and their needs rather than speaking about yourself. When you speak, let His blessings rather than curses flow from your mouth. |
