Adversity - Is Anyone Immune?
No one is immune from adversity. We do not want to
come to grips with this truth. However, as we get older we get nearer and
nearer to the truth from which no one escapes…the truth no one is
immune from the ultimate adversity of death. Everyone suffers the
ultimate adversity of death. We try very hard to avoid this truth. We
try not to tell ourselves or have anyone tell us death will come to
us…that our life will end…that in the future there will be a time
when we do not breathe and we will have no consciousness as we have it
now. We try to tell ourselves adversity, including death, comes from God
to soften the blow of dealing with the terrible truth that adversity,
including death, is not from God but from Satan. We try to avoid the
truth there is nothing we can do about this ultimate adversity. However,
there is something we can do about death. We can survive death in our
spirit. We cannot only survive death in our spirit, but we can also
prosper in the eternity of God’s Heaven if we accept Christ into our
heart and life. It is Christ who helps us deal not only with the
ultimate adversity of death but also with the smaller adversities along
the way.
Without Christ, death is the ultimate darkness.
With Christ, death becomes the ultimate light.
