Topic:
Living With What We Cannot Change
Just because there is something in life we cannot change (whether
temporary or permanent), doesn't mean we have to live in darkness.
Historically, an alcoholic cannot change into a non-alcoholic. A person
may have a life circumstance like a disability that will never change.
What are we to do in these kinds of circumstances? Do we ignore the
circumstance and pretend the circumstance we cannot change is not there.
Are we to take charge of the circumstance we cannot change? If we are to
take charge of the circumstance we cannot change, what does this mean?
If I am an alcoholic, I cannot take charge of the alcoholism and make
the alcoholism disappear. If I have a permanent disability, I cannot
make the disability disappear. How do I take charge of what cannot be
changed? The answer is not worrying about taking charge of what you
cannot change. The answer is taking charge of 110% of what you can
change. The answer is to find those parts of your life, and there are
many, that can be lived out in spite of your many burdens and obstacles
you cannot change.
